To see what we could see

Continuing on from yesterday, I continue the images from the hike in the Gaspésie. We made it up to the intersection you see in the first picture below (from the path on the left towards Tétras) and found it neat. Not shown in the picture here though is the 'side-trail' off to the right that we could (and did) take out to look out point.

Path to the Lookout

Taking that quick trail to the lookout point gave us an idea of where we were headed - well, the 'shortcut' to where we were headed. Having checked out the maps before hand, having a GPS with us and knowing what the previous refuge looked like, we made our-selves an educated guess that the next refuge had to be 'near-by'. Alas, it was near-by, but we would just have to take a different path to get there. The 2 pictures below show the view of the next cabin (not exactly the next refuge on the trail, but a cabin none-the-less) from the lookout point.

Out and About in Tongeren

Here are a few of the interesting things that I came across while wandering through the city of Tongeren. The first is (obviously) of a pond, the second of what I presume is a fountain, the third a cute sign saying "My dog leaves nothing behind" and finally a panorama of an in city lake.

Refuge Tétras

Finally we arrived at the Refuge Tétras. This is a cozy cabin in the 'middle' of the park that in which you can reserve a bed. It holds up to 8 people and makes for a comfortable stopover at the end of a day of hiking. We arrived, put down our stuff, explored a little bit (particularly scoping out a spot for some sunset pictures later on) and sat down to eat. After eating we spent most of the rest of the evening watching the sun go down over the lake and the stars come out. Here are some images from in and around the Refuge that night. The first is of the lake beside which the Refuge is situated. The next ones are of the sunset (and the surrounding landscape including the cabin itself during the sunset). Finally, the last image is an Iridium Flare that we watched from the Refuge. The path from yesterdays post was luckily not like that for the entirety for the entirety of the 5km between the Summit and the Refuge. Here are some of the other views from that trail (including a couple of much improved trails!) The first image showed some snow we came across on the path; a veritable Christmas in July (it in fact was July 25th). The second a little lake (Okay, a pond) right beside where the snow was. The third shows the path descending again below the treeline with a lake in the background. That lake is our destination and if you look really closely, you can see the green metal roof of the Refuge close to the lake in the middle of the trees. Finally, the last image is of a slightly improved path on the way to the Refuge. Christmas in July Comes Through! Pit Stop on the Path Path and View to Refuge Yet another style of Path

Cottage Landscapes from a Kayak

It is one thing taking landscape pictures at the cottage. It is an entirely different thing leaning over your kayak with your expensive equipment to try and get the angle right for an image. All in all I think the couple of images below turned out well.

Flying GuynS

This weekend we ended up putting a floating dock into the lake. One of the really fun parts of this was teaching / convincing GuynS to jump off the end into the water. The fun thing about showing GuynS to jump off the dock is getting pictures of it!!

Morning Photography

Here is another continuation of the foggy morning at the cottage. The second one one I find appealing due to the calm nature of the water and the fact that unless you purposely look for it you may miss the fact that the bottom of the image is in fact the sand under the water. This one is similar to another I took during a summer morning at the cottage.

Foggy Morning = Black and White

Ok so maybe the title of this post isn't ALWAYS true, but this foggy morning just screamed black and white to me. Even when I tried to edit it into a colour image in post I still couldn't bring myself to finish it in anything other than B&W. This is the same foggy morning as the last two posts with GuynS portraits and here are the three black and white landscapes that arose from the mist.

Waterfalls are Back

Here are two more of the Chalet Waterfall series. Only a couple more left from there after this and then we go back in time again.

In the mean time, a couple more articles of mine are published up on Bright Hub. Learn how to install photoshop filters and learn how to merge to images in photoshop! This week I'm working on a few articles regarding shutter speed. Stay tuned.

Waterfalls in the Fall

Good day everyone once again. Despite a couple day break here I am back with one of the most recent sets (yet still a few weeks old) of pictures from the last time I was up at the chalet. While going for a run that morning I saw these falls from the road and said that I had to get back up there that day to get some shots. Long story short, these three, and 4 more to come in a bit, were the results.

Helen Hunt Falls

Do to lack of time for the moment I am just throwing up one image this time, but there are more to come still from the area. This is a place close to the famous 7 Falls region of Colorado Springs. This one on the other hand is a part of the Regional Park system and is called Helen Hunt Falls.

Tubing

One of the excitements of summers up at the cottage is tubing. The last time we went up we often had three and sometimes even four tubes being pulled behind the boat. Depending on the crowd, it is often less a fight to stay on the tube as much as it is a fight to knock the other guys off theirs!

Are you Tired of Waterfalls Yet?

You should be getting tired of waterfall pictures by now. I think that I am. Tomorrow I will probably go back to the other pictures from Kingston that haven't been posted yet. In the mean time, here is another couple pictures of the "watefall find". The first picture is another angle of the same images I've been showing over the last couple of days. The second one is actually further down the river, underneath the bridge, and down a steeper section of falls. Originally the second image was all that I saw. Exploring afterward allowed me to find the falls shown in the first image.

The Next Installment of the Waterfall Find

As promised, here are a couple more images of the waterfalls that I accidentally came across. Usually I like posting the images up here first and then putting them up on Flickr, but I accidentally left these two as publicly available during the day today, so you may have seen them. If not ... enjoy and let me know what you think.

Turbulent Water

New Found Falls

Rivière Blanche et Montée Paiement

Sunday I had my first opportunity to explore a little bit of the photographic opportunities  of the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Basically I said that I was going out to find some images to make even though I didn't know where I was going to go. So I left my house and drove straight away from the populated Gatineau side of the hwy 50 in search of a photo opportunity. About 15km along the winding road I came across a bridge, looked off to one side, and noticed a waterfall! I turned the car around and parked it. There I found out that there are actually two waterfalls and several neat iiareas to photograph, which I am sure that I did not exhaust in my short hour or so shooting. Below are two of the images that I have finished editing, with more to come in the next few days. Needless to say I'm looking forward to exploring the areas other photographic gems in the months to come.

Dipping Under the Bridge

Easter weekend a got out for the first time in a long time to get a few pictures. I found this place by accident (I didn't realise that the sun would be going down right beside the bridge this time of the year) and made a point of coming back the next day to get some images. Below are a couple that came out of it all.
