Une belle randonnée en poussette tout en prenant de belles photos avec une superbe famille! Merci beaucoup.

It was honestly my pleasure to spend the afternoon shooting images of Zoé and her family in the 'Centre De La Nature' in Mont St-Hilaire. We had a great stroller hike while doing the photo session with this amazing family. Thanks a ton!

Here are some of my favourites from the shoot. The whole set can be seen on FlickR here or by clicking through the album at the end of this post (hover over and click on the arrows on either side of the image):
Here is a very specific example of the change in paths within a period of no less than a half an hour. The first image below is the trail that we had to hike in the woods descending from the Xalibu lookout and to the cabin below that I pointed out in previous images. The second one is the trail that was directly following that same cabin. Slight difference.

We figured the 'sketchy Inukshuk paths' were finished, but alas, this was not the case. Here was the path heading up:

Here is a link to a panorama of the top of this peak, Mount Xalibu. Zoom in using the "+"/"-" buttons on the bottom right and then scroll around to your hearts content!

http://zoom.it/Afgo

Here is a quick 'hero shot' from the top of the peak with Marc and the great view in the background.

And finally ... look at the path to head down!
Here are two quick images that show some of the view. The third image was neat because it was something we picked out and zoomed in on with the camera to confirm whether or not we actually saw correctly. On the other side of this huge valley is another lookout from another path within the parc!

We made it up to the intersection you see in the first picture below (from the path on the left towards Tétras) and found it neat. Not shown in the picture here though is the 'side-trail' off to the right that we could (and did) take out to look out point.

Taking that quick trail to the lookout point gave us an idea of where we were headed - well, the 'shortcut' to where we were headed. Having checked out the maps before hand, having a GPS with us and knowing what the previous refuge looked like, we made our-selves an educated guess that the next refuge had to be 'near-by'. Alas, it was near-by, but we would just have to take a different path to get there. The 2 pictures below show the view of the next cabin (not exactly the next refuge on the trail, but a cabin none-the-less) from the lookout point.
but I think that is where I left off. We had two more days of hiking on that trip, and consequently, two more days of images. The day started off with us still in the woods and some more wooden paths through them.

Since we were still in the woods, we had to make our way up and up and up and out of the woods, eventually to peak out over the trees. Looking back the way we came, we catch a glimpse of the lookout tower on the mountain in the background from where we came down the day before!

Finally popping up out of the trees completely we get a decent view, in that same direction, over top of the trees. The neat thing about this image is that we get a decent look at the physical shape of the two lakes and the refuge (green room in the middle of the two lakes) where we slept the night before AS WELL AS where is is in relation to the lookout tower from the previous day's hike (top left).
As well, two posts ago I showed you Ambiorix, who obviously, helps to date the town back to Roman rule. Usually though, when someone talks about towns in the 1st and 2nd century, they have nothing to physically show for it (maybe this is an entirely North American bias on my part as well ...). Not so with Tongeren. This wall here is smack dab in the middle of the city with a pathway leading on top of it. I wandered around it taking a few pictures during my stay there. A quick foray later into Wikipedia and I see this:

"Roman Tongeren quickly became one of the largest Gallo-Roman administrative and military towns in the 1st century. It suffered from a destructive fire during the Batavian siege in 70CE, which was part of the Batavian revolt. In the 2nd century, it erected a defensive wall, portions of which can still be seen today."

Yup, the wall shown above is within its 19th century of existence. Humbling.
Cameron Arsenaulthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08538031411946703200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-840408626497747397.post-14616481385297878142014-01-25T20:23:00.001-08:002014-01-25T20:23:55.701-08:00Snowy Road

Snowy Road, a photo by Scerakor on Flickr.

Entrance leading up to the College Jean de la Mennais in La Prairie (South shore Montreal) during the Christmas holidays.
Cameron Arsenaulthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08538031411946703200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-840408626497747397.post-22150671382564789352014-01-24T17:02:00.001-08:002014-01-24T17:02:04.048-08:00Ambiorix in Tongeren

Ambiorix in Tongeren, a photo by Scerakor on Flickr.

Ambiorix was a national "hero" as a leader of the Belgic tribe of North Eastern Gaul.
