The Final Two

Here are the final two images from the "Haunted Hotel" series here. There are actually these two, as well as two others that are left but you will have to go to my flickr page (link on the right) to see the other ones. Enough of these posts have been dedicated to this place.

The Rooms Upstairs

This time when I visited the hotel I ventured up the stairs in the back of the hotel (cautiously making sure every step was still safe) and checking on the inside of the hotel. It looks as if the upstairs was a living area for the owners (complete assumption). There was one room upstairs that looked as much of a mess as those that were downstairs but the rest was eerily clean. The first image below is of the living room which was the most cleared of them all. I really like how this one turned out. The second image was of one bedroom upstairs although not clean and tidy like the living room, was creepily still intact. This includes the bed being made and the dresser relatively cleared. This room was by far one of the creepiest.

Creepy Hotel on Highway 2

Here is the first installment of the promised pictures from the haunted hotel. I tried to use monochrome to accentuate the "creepiness" of the place. I'm not sure if I succeeded to the level that I would have wanted, but post processing was fun none the less.

Haunted Hotel HDR

I've been on course in Kingston for the last 4.5 months and a few of us have been meaning to get out to the "Haunted Hotel" on highway 2 for a while now. It took us to the last week of the course to finally get out there. Here is the first one of that series. More to follow this week when I get them edited up. Hopefully I'll be posting more regularly again since my course is finished and I should have some more time.

Lonely Tree in the Field

Another HDR thrown together testing out the software "HDRtist". This program has its simple functioning interface going for it. You really just need to throw it into the program and adjust one slider. I probably will not be using it in lieu of Photomatix any time soon, but was worth trying out nonetheless!

Badminton Part 2

So, I still have had no word from the Kingston This Week photo editor about the badminton shots from last week, but I'll post another one of Dan up here. This is not one that I had sent out to the paper, so it should be OK. The neat thing about this shot is the racquet and how it is frozen in this picture. The rest of the badminton shots should be coming later this week, KTW email pending. To see the rest of my photography click here.

Navy Bay "Predators"

Yesterday I once again walked home from RMC (Well at least started to) and never got past the Navy Bay fields. Just like the Robins I saw last week, there were several different kinds of birds flying around. I spent a good hour just watching and trying to get a couple of good pictures of the two you see below. I'm pretty sure I was making one of them nervous since one of them had half a fish in his (her?) grip the whole time (I'm assuming it didn't want to take it back to the nest since I was around). To see the rest of the pictures from this set on flickr click here. For the rest of the pictures on my photostream in general, click here.

The Sun - Le Soleil - El Sol - Die Sonne - Il Sole

This weekend I helped out with a public solar observing session in Confederation Park. We had 3 solar telescopes set up. This was essentially a part of the '100 hours of Astronomy' for the IYA. Here is a picture that I was able to get holding my camera up to the Coronado eyepiece. If you look VERY carefully at the top left, you can see some slight prominence. The sun has been going through a very slow cycle the last little while so there isn't much activity to speak of on the surface or on the edge. For more photo's of this events and anything else, see my flickr photostream here.

Martello Tower Star Trails

Martello Trails
Although not a compiled 45+ minute startrails picture (as I intended on getting), it is still my favourite picture of the night. This was a compilation of a 12 minute exposure at f/5.6, ISO 100, and one shorter (30ish) second exposures at ISO 100 to get the "dot" at the end of the startrail. To see this large (recommended) click here. To see the rest of my flickr photostream (including the rest of the shots from this 'outing') click here.
