Last of New York

Here are the last three images from the New York series. The first two were from a "museum" close to where the cruise launched from. The USS Intrepid aircraft carrier was a short walk away and a perfect quick walk while waiting for the cruise to start. The first image was of one of the neatest things on the deck ... the Space Shuttle "Enterprise"!!

Here are some of my favourite images that I've made from New York; photos from the "Top of the Rock" in the Rockefeller center. We decided that we would either go up to the lookout from the "Top of the Rock" or the "Empire State Building" and finally decided on the former. This way, we had an 'unobstructed' view of the Empire state buildind as well as Central Park. Christmas Lights Tour

Here are a few more images from the Holiday Lights tour we took while in NYC. I say that here are some "more" because the post from Christmas day had three images from the same tour. Albeit not my best images, I still am amazed by some of the lights in the city (as shot from a moving bus at night time).

Random NYC Sights

Although all of the previous NYC posts have had some sort of theme ... this one will seem a little out of place. The three images below aren't really of much (well ... they are but I'm not sure what they are!) and weren't a significant attraction we went to see. Here are a few of the images that fell out of wandering around the city!

Times Square NYC Pt 1

One of the most impressive places in NYC is Times Square! The bright lights and crowded streets add to the 'magic' of the location. One of the facts that I heard while I was there impressed me as well: the owners of the stores and restaurants in the area designated as "Times Square" are mandated that a certain percentage of of the facades and open wall spaces need to be covered with lit up signs, screens and neon. This is all to preserve the "magic".

Another photogenic location in NYC is the Grand Central Terminal; here are some images that ensued.

9/11 Memorial in New York City

One of the "attractions" that we saw in NYC was the, in progress, 9/11 memorial. The first picture shows one of the two perpetual pools, in the former locations of the two towers. All around the edges of these pools are the names of those who lost their lives on that day. They are separated in location around the pools by where they were during the tragedy (Tower 1, Tower 2, NYFD, Pentagon, etc.)

The second image is of a tree. The tree looks as if it is a violent criminal as it is extremely well restrained. These restraints are so that nothing can remove this tree since it has been through a lot! It was planted in 1970 and was the sole surviving tree found after 9/11. It was nursed back to health in a nursery and after some tough times dealing with hurricanes at the nursery, eventually made its way back to where it is now.

The Down Low in Jersey City

Having forgot my accessory to attach my camera to the tripod I took to creative angles needed to steady my camera. Here are a couple of images taken by placing my camera on the ground for some night photography. The first one is of the road down towards the waterside and the financial district of NYC in the distance. The second is on one of the public transit train paths in Jersey City.

First off ... Happy New Year to all!

I had the opportunity to go to New York during the holiday period and that meant yet another place full of photo opportunities. Since I am knee deep in those photos right now, the next little while will be all about the photos from New York .... then I will blast back to the unfinished images of 2012!

We stayed on the Jersey City side of the region which gave a great view of the Financial District of New York ... here is that view!

Boston Parks Scenery

Here are a few more of the great scenic points that I found in the short time that I had wandering around the city. The first two images are of Boston Public Gardens, one looking back towards the downtown core and the other a prominent statue in the park. The third is of an interesting "building contrast" that is not far away from the Boston Library of the two previous posts. The front (this is the side) of the church was MUCH more interesting but unfortunately it there was construction. Nonetheless I liked the contrast of this church and the tall office buildings in the back.

Bostonian Views

Here are the last two wide angle views of Boston as seen from the 50th floor of the Prudential Centre in downtown Boston. One of the things I really like about the second image is the green lines that are the road leading towards the water. The green colour (I believe) stems from all the trees along those streets and the streetlights.
The next few days I'll give you a bit of a rest from the night-time HDR scene and hopefully some more down to earth (get it ... hahaha) scenes from Boston. Once those are done I'll have a few more night time images for your.
